Where do You get Your Inspiration?

Phew. . .I have officially graded all the resubmissions. Please check your grades and/or inbox to see if you have a grade or need to fix something. There were still too many of you who haven't completed the scanning assignment and the taskstream intro. . .please get those in ASAP. You know who you are ;-)

This week: I am going to introduce Inspiration and Kidspiration for you to play with. This will be our most constructivist assignment. For those of you who don't like strict guidelines, this is your assignment. For those of you who just prefer to follow a list of instructions or copy a sample. . . .not so much.

Journals: There will be no journal assignment this week. DON'T FORGET THAT JOURNALS 1-5 ARE DUE FRIDAY. . .how much does this assignment weight on your shoulders right now?

This week's question: Who is your favorite painter or your favorite painting and why? I'll leave you with one of mine in the post. . .Cafe Terrace at Night by Van Gogh. It was painted by one of my students on ceiling tiles. . .my entire ceiling was covered with paintings like this!

My fovorite artist is Salvador Dali. His art is so creative and out there, I especially love that everyhting has a meaning and purpose... If you have seen any of his art you know how random it is but it is so amazing and thats the beaty in art is everything can be considered art. ;-)

My favorite artist is Salvador Dali and my favorite work of art of his is titled "young woman dancing with rope". It was completed in 1968. His museum in France is amazing, and full of really cool furniture! I've always been entranced by the different meanings that his paintings contain....the dripping clocks, ants, open drawers....I'll let you hunt down their meanings! :)

Sadly I don’t have a favorite artist, painter or picture. I tend to like artwork of palm trees and the oceans. Paintings of paradise are hung up all over my house and that is one of few things that keep me sane.

My favorite painting is da Monalisa by Da vinci. i like that painting because it is very artistic, professionally well structure and very historically.

I like the art of Abraxis, who is a local artist I know from DE. I skimmed with him when I was younger and he has done paintings of two of my favorite spots to skim.

I do not really know a lot of artists, but my favorite of the ones I know is Thomas Kinkade. I have walked through a few of his galleries and enjoyed what I saw. Most of his work seems to be outdoors and scenery type artwork and my favorite one that I have found online is "Cobblestone Lane I." I like the details of his paintings =]

This is like the music question. There are too many artists that I enjoy to name or call my favorite. I like the well known ones like Picasso (especially his blue period). Dali and his off the wall dream like multiple meaning pieces so on. But then there are artists that don’t have the big name to go with them. There is a painting by a formal slave in Memphis that I bought a print of. It is of three slave women dancing in unison together. The title of the painting is called “Rhythm”. It is a great mixture of the visual with music as well as cultural.

I love Monet, his simple brush strokes are quite beautiful, and my family is obsessed with Thomas Kinkade, and his unique talent for drawing light into his picures so superbly. I also love Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michalangelo... but perhaps for the wrong reasons =)

I do not have a favorite artist, but I love to see the Creation of Michael Angelo in the Sixtine Chapel. The Creation inspire me to be better every day! At least to try.

I don't really know of any paintings that I like but I would say my favorite painter or artist is Picasso. I really like his work because everything looks messed up and out of order. Pretty cool.

My favorite painter is Frida Kahlo. She is so amazing with all of the obstacles she over came to become a female artist during the first half of the twentieth century. Also she uses so many brilliant colors in her work, which mostly consist of self portraits.

My favorite painting is Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh. I love sunflowers. They are so bright and lively. I like the way this painting looks so real and not too perfect.

I recently discovered a contemporary art piece called "Classic Debut (The Gaylynn Theatre)" by Randy Welborn. I particularly enjoyed the realism that he employs with the presentation of the style of the times, not just in cars, but the style in buildings and the way people dressed.
The link for the art piece is here:

I am not too knowledgeable on artists and paintings. But, one artist's work that I do enjoy, is Thomas Kinkade. I'm not a big fan, nor do I really understand, abstract art. So, I like Kinkade's simple depictions of homes, nature, buildings, etc.

I don't know the name of it or who it's by, but it is of a naked women...but you can't see her body, just the outline and she is sitting on the floor and is covering her face with her entire arms and her hair is over her body. It just looks like she is so vulnerable, but doesn't want anyone to fully see her. I feel this way a lot!

Wow, this is a hard question to answer. I enjoy so many different artists and styles. I'd have to say Joan Miro is my overall favorite artist. I also like Picasso, Van Gogh and Pollack. I like the energy of their work. I have a lot of artwork (not original, unfortunately)of a French artist named Michel Delacroix. I love how his art really evokes a feeling for the place he has painted, whether it is a city or pastoral scene.

I like the painting by Vincent Van Gogh, "Sunflowers". In high school I took an art class and was asked to replicate this painting, but include our own impression of it. I totally butchered the painting because I cannot draw, but it was fun and I have always appreciated this painting a lot more since that.

my favorite painting is Scream by Edvard Munch. I've always studied it in school and being advertised onn tv. I always wondered what made him want to paint it. I like the use of colors and the odd shapes he uses

I don't have a favorite artist or painting. I have been to many museums around the world and have seen many famous paintings. Some that stick in my memory is the Last Supper and the Mona Lisa mainly because they are famous. I also like Van Gogh, Dali and M.C. Escher. I had a good time at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and remember a fun exhibit of Dali in London. Okay, okay my favorite is The Last Supper because of the fact that it is painted on a church wall and is detoriorating. During WWII the church was almost completly destroyed all walls were knocked down except the wall with this painting.

My favoite artist is my grandmother, Helen, we have her paintings all over our home! They are mostly landscapes done with oil paint... I wish she would paint more often!

I dont have a favorite artist or painting because I like to do my own artistic creations although if i did pick favorites I'd have too many to list because I like so many different pieces people have done. The one that sticks out in my mind-not as a favorite but as a funny one- is the painting Phoebe did on friends with the scary lady coming out of the picture.

My favorite Artist/painting is by Leonardo DaVinci. He painted the figure of a woman dressed in the Florentine fashion of her day and seated in a visionary, mountainous landscape, which was a remarkable instance of Leonardo technique of soft heavily shaded modeling. That woman was Mona Lisa" with an enigmatic expression. I learned while in France, that the slight opening of the lips at the corner of the mouth was considered in that period a sign of elegance. And so I bought my first replica of Mona Lisa on Oil Canvas years ago in France. I still have my painting in my dinning room.

I love art in all mediums; I find that most of my favorites are the surrealists. A few of my favorites are: Dali, Kahlo, and Bosch. I remember the first time I experienced Boschs’ Garden of Earthly Delights at the Prado in Madrid. It was an incredible piece to see up close, I think that I stayed with it for what felt like forever, trying to take in all of the detail and weirdness.

my favorite artists are probably picasso, dali and frieda khalo. THey are all very different but they show so much life and they stories in the artwork is very unique. Perhaps my favorite piece is 'guernica' by picasso. it is a disturbing piece because it is the battle of guernica during the spanish civil war...but i saw it in person in mardid at the reina sophia museum and it is an immense and extremely intense piece of artwork. its like 30 feets by 18 and theres so much detail. i've never seen anyhitng so amazing.

I'm actually not a fan of paintings. I do not have a favorite artist but I do enjoy looking at various types of art. Photography is my favorite art to look at but, as I already said, I'm not a fan of paintings.

I used to hate Van Gogh. I thought it was "kid-level", then I really looked at it,... and I thought his stuff was "OK". Then a girlfriend dragged me to an exhibit of some of his stuff, and I quickly changed my opinion. Once I could see the texture of the pieces I found a lot more appreciation for what went into his work. One piece of advice: don't get TOO close to the works of art hanging at a museum,... staff tends to frown on that! Oh, I think Siqueiros kicks ass, and Dali is cool too.

I have many artists that i appreciate, my favorite though is the surrealist Salvador Dali...his paintings are amazing..."Head Bombarded with Grains of Wheat" for instance. It is a meshing of many different art movements...AMAZING!!!!

Jean-Michel Basquiat. I like his work because he started out as a graffit artist and all of his work was racially motivated.

I like the paintings from Rosarito, you know the ones where the guys spray paint and use bowls, newspaper, and other tools to create intriquite looking pieces... I have a few from Mexico. I have a whole space and planets type scene, a beach and dolphine scene, and a sun setting over mountains-- way cool. They're very colorful and appear like they took way more than ten minutes to produce.

My favorite painting is Portrait of Giovani Arnoldfini and his wife by Jan Van Eyck. I used to come across this portrait and I hate it. The man in the picture just looked so devious that it scared me. It wasn't until I took an art class that I came to appreciate every detail of it. If some of you are not familiar with the painting, it is the one that appears at the begining of the credits on the show desperate housewifes.

My favorite painter would have to be Pablo Picasso. I love the way he uses an abstract approach to all his art work. Favorite Picture by Pablo, "Woman with a Blue Hat."

I do not know very many artists, but I do enjoy paintings that are outdoor, and those that involve nature. I would have to say that of the paintings that have particularily stood out in my mind, Thomas Kinkade is also one of my favorites. I do not enjoy art that is completely abstract and to be honest... sometimes I feel like I can do better (and I am NO ARTIST!!!). I enjoy art that is realistic and detailed.

Jolie Harsch said...

I like most all the artists, but today I chose Frida Kahlo because she painted such lovely culture.

There are two painters I like. The first, I have to admit I am slightly biased, is my grandmother. She has done a number of landscapes, but my favorite is one of two young girls standing in a field of flowers. The other painter is someone I met while in Mexico. His name is Gaspar Aculco. His paintings of feminine forms were my favorite.

I really love the work of Diego Rivera. My mom has had a big print of one of his paintings hanging in our house for as long as I can remember. He uses such bold and beautiful colors. He is definitely one of my favorite artists.

I'm fond of Van Gogh and Monet, but my favorite painting right now is The Embrace by Gustav Klimt. It was a gift from my boyfriend. The picture is supposed to hang vertically, but the people who framed it for him set it up to hang horizontally. He thinks that it is hilarious, and won't have it fixed. It drives me and my OCD crazy, and I still look at it sideways.

My favorite artist/painter is Diego Rivera. I really like spanish culture and their history. I like the characters/symbols he portrays in his paintings. My favorite painting of his is, "The conquest". Here, he was able to cover 300 years of history in one single canvas. That is neat, of course the realism is horrible, but his depiction of this is a good picture to history.
