Officially, the 1/2 way point of the semester! Wow, y'all have already done an amazing amount of work. . .If you are flexible, feel free to pat yourself on the back. I hope that the journals didn't keep you awake all weekend. And I look forward to seeing some awesome Inspiration/Kidspiration examples.
This week: We are going to finish the Inspiration/Kidspiration assignments and then we will be introduced to the wiki. . .I believe everyone will really enjoy this assignment, as it not only teaches about wikis, but it will be a resource for you as you progress through your credential program!
I have also made the Copyright assignment available to you. This is something that you can complete on your own time. I believe I gave you around 3 weeks to do so!
Journal #6: As most of you should have the new L&L, I am going to choose a few articles from that issue. This week, "Social Justice: Choice or Necessity?", by Colleen Swain and David Edyburn.
This week's Question: Name A favorite (not THE favorite, as it causes some of you to freeze and renders you unable to offer a response ;-) book you read in school and then name a book you wish you had read in school and why. . .I'll start you off: My favorite book I read in school was The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger. The book I wish I had read in school (assuming I could suspend time and space as it was written after I graduated) is The Tortilla Curtain, by T.C. Boyle.

My favorite book read in school would have to be "My brother Sam is Dead." I dont remember the author but it was an amazing book, I couldnt put it down.I wish I could have read "A Child Called it" in school, I've always wanted to read it and from what I hear it is amazing and will definately keep your attention.

My favorite book that I read in high school was Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. I'm sure a lot of you have read the book and enjoyed it for the same reason I did as it really brought to light the craziness of war, especially with the style Heller used. I wish I would have read Catcher in the Rye or Lord of the Flies. I met TC Boyle after reading the Tortilla Curtain!!
My favorite book in school was The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Thia was the only book I actuaslly read. I didn't read many books in school...like I was told to. I would have rather not read any never mind what book do I wish I had read!

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley was my favorite read in highschool, looking back I wish that I would have read some Kerouac, like On the Road, or Bharma Bums. Also really enjoy the teachings of the Dali Lama, his books might help highschoolers break out of that egocentric shell.
My favorite book from school was "A Brave New World" I think this was the first book I read every page of and really enjoyed. I wish I had a chance to read "A Tale of Two Cities" I might have liked it?
My favorite bok tht i read in school was Go Ask Alice, by Batrice Sparks. I liked reading it because it deal with some issues that friends were going to durign high school. I wish I had read a book in Spanish because I wanted to learn about stories of my culture.
I enjoyed reading the Iliad and the Odyssey. I was in middle school and it was so far from reality. I wish I had read Othello. After they made a movie about it, it peaked my curiosity.
My favorite book from high school is "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck. I still enjoy reading Steinbeck stories when I get the oportunity. He has a wonderful style that's easy to follow. The book I wish I could have read is "Ulyssis", by James Joyce. I don't think it's read in highschool, but that's the book that comes to mind now because I would like to read it in a more disciplined atmosphere - just to have its spirit in my thought's library.
hmmm....my favorite book, i did really enjoy cather in the rye. It was a coming of age novel and i really appreciated it. As for a book that i wish i had read...i read 'the unbearable lightness of being' (cannot recall the author) a couple years ago and it was another eye opening, coming of age novel. It could be for a higher level course, it touches on many different topics, if you havn'et read it i suggest you take a look.
I really enjoyed reading all of the Edgar Allan Poe stories. I don't know why they stick out to me, but it must be something to do with how strange and dark they all were. A book I wish I had read is "Running With Scissors." I saw this book in an 8th grade class and could only imagine the discussions it would have prompted.
My favorite book that I read in school was actually last semester and it's "The Feast of Love" by Charles Baxter. I was so good, I've never been so into a books before. A book I wish we read in class was "To Kill a Mockingbird" or something that's really popular that you hear a lot of people talking about. I'm not a big reader but if the book is good, I'll read it!
My favorite book I read in school was actually called 'The Witches' and we read it in 6th grade. I thought that it was a great book and very entertaining. Throughout high school, I did not read many books that I found entertaining. I would have loved to read books that were coming out at the time instead of books from the past that are noted as 'great pieces of work from the past'. I think that books written now are more interesting becuase students can realate to most of them.
Oookay, I think I'll go with the prose of Edgar Allen Poe (I know, that means I was a freaky kid). But I can definitely state that the books I wish I had read were the one's I was SUPPOSED to read! Yeah, I had a problem with that.
I liked "Lord of the Flies", because I got the chance to make an awesome cheezy movie along with it, with Dr. Frootloop and Austinjacks, and then some... but the book was really interesting too, if not a little disturbing.
My favorite book in school was probably To Kill a Mockingbird. My teacher was really enthusiastic when we discussed this book and it pops in my head as my favorite. I wish that I read A Raisen in the Sun because I have heard good things, but I never seem to find the time to pick it up and read it on my own. I will one day =]
My favorite book in from school was To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The character of Atticus Finch made me want to be a lawyer for a while. I would have liked to have read Snow Falling on Cedars while in school... not only was it a beautifully written book, but it would have been a great way to actually introduce the Japanese internment into the curriculum.
One of my favorite books that I read in school was "Letters from the end of the world". I don't remember the author but he was an amazing guy. TRhe book was an Ieyewitness account of the bombing in Hiroshima. The book was compliled a year after the event and was written as letters to his dying wife. It is the first account of the bombing. One book i wish i had read in school was Frankenstien by Mary Shelley. It was different then the movies i had seen and is one of the best God complex examples i know of.
My favorite book I read in high school was " The Great Gatsby" By F. Scott Fitzgerald. I enjoyed it as it showed a view of the roaring twenties that wasn't necessarily portrayed in the history books. A book that I wish I had read was, "The Godfather" By Mario Puzo. "The Godfather" shows the dynamics of a crime family during the 1940's and 1950s. But, it also shows an inner struggle of the head of the family and his three sons.
My favorite book and play I read in school are a tie between "Who's Afraid of Vergina Wolf" and "Lord of the Flies". A book that I wish I read was "Death of a Salesman", but this is a play, if that counts.
My favorite book I read in my advanced English course in high school was Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I liked the fact that it was a book that had modern slang (foul language =) haha) and related to most students in high school. I wish I got to have read Lord of the Flies during high school. Many students that I have tutored read it and have to be tested on it and it is very interesting on how the author incorporates boys creating their own government!
A favorite book of mine, from sixth grade, was "The Witch of Blackbird Pond." "Blubber" would have been a good book to have read in the upper elementary grades (although there is that space/time continuum issue) because it's a great book about prejudice and bullying.
My favorite book that I read in school was the Odyssey. I can't remember the author. The book I wish I read in school would be, well I don't really read so I am not sure.
One of my favorite books that I read in school was The Scarlet Letter. I really enjoyed reading this book for school because after doing the reading, I looked forward to discussing it in my class. I would have liked to read the DaVinci Code for school because that book kept me interested the entire time I was reading.
I really enjoyed reading Shakespear's Macbeth in high school. My teacher made reading it very exciting and easy to understand. I wish that I would have read 1984 by George Orwell during school. Now that I have read it, it is one of my favorites. I think that if I were to have read it in high school, I would have had thought much more about politics at the time.
My favorite book I read in school was Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. It seemed like every English class except for mine read Catcher in the Rye so I eventuallly want to read it.
My favorite book I have read in school was "Lord of the Flies." I liked the way the kids create their own society on the island. A book I would have liked to read in school would be "Harry Potter." I'm sure it would not be very informational but it would be pretty sweet!!!

My favorite book that I read in high school is "A Child called It". My english teacher really wanted us to read it and the school did not allow her to use it. So, she offered it for extra credit...I got hooked! It was so horrible but at the same time I couldn't put it down. I ended up reading all 4 books by the author, Dave Peltzer. By far the best books I have read. If you haven't read it...I suggest you do...It really opens up your eyes!!
My favorite book I read in school was To Kill A Mocking Bird. Such a great way to look at diversity, racism, sexism, and to just practice reading. I wish I would have read Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants to learn about life-long friendships. Or maybe 1984 by George Orwell to start using my critical thinking tools!
My favorite book I read in school was the "Great Gatsby" by F. Scott FitzGerald. I thought it was a great book and still is my favorite. However, the book I wish I had read in School would have been "The Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens.
El Principito (The Little Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupery is my favorite book. I usually do not read a lot, but I remember that one. It is about the values. I will like to read the biography of historic people.
"What is essential is invisible to the eye" Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
"The Old Man and The Sea" was my favorite book I read in school. There have been many books I wish I would have read in school, but the one I can think of off the top of my head is "Travels with Charley".
My favorite book that I read while in school was "The Scarlet Letter". I thnk that it was a book that even though was written so long ago, was easy to understand and relate to. It was a very interesting and engaging book for me. I cannot really think of a book that I wish I could have read because I do not enjoy being forced to read books, I like to read for enjoyment.
A favorite book I read during high school was "The Lord of the Flies." By reading the book and watching the movie at the same time, it was very fun and interestig the way we were understanding the reading. A book I wish I had read is "How to kill a Mockingbird" because our English teacher talked about it and we saw the movie but we never got to actually read it.
My favorite book that I read in school was "Let's Roll." It was for a book report. It was about 9-11. The author was the wife of the man that helped to take down the terrorists on the plane. It was the United 93 plane that landed in the pennsylvania field. It was a great book. It made me cry. It felt so real. The book that I wish we read in school would have to be "A Child called it." I heard it was a great book.
My favorite book I read in school was Courious george and the flying kit because in that book it teaches young boys how to make papper boats. It was a blast. I wish I read a book called Scotish Chieftons written in the 1700 . Its the true story of braveheart.
My favorite that I read in school would probably be, "The Glass Castle" by Jeanette Walls. It is a memoir that is honest and transparent and I would one day like to emulate her writing style. A book I wish I had read in school was "Of Mice and Men". There is no particular interest in the book except that I feel like everyone read it in high school except me :)
I just thought of another book I read in school that I really enjoyed. We all read them so their is no shame in admitting that they were my favorite series. that right CLIFF NOTEs. PRops also goes to the Dictionary without those two book I would have never made it to College. J/k
Let me just say that i've always wondered why we're required to read Lord of the Flies in high school. I didn't care for it. Okay, my favorite book we read in school was Moby Dick. A book that we should have read was more collaborative literature from various writers.
My favorite book I read in third grade was Charlotte's Web! and my favorite book I read in sixth grade-one that I loved-was the Toll Booth-if you havent read it you should.
This is a tough question for an old guy! I’ve read a lot of books and some of them were “read in school” but not many made enough of an impression to last 30 years or more. I read Catcher but don’t remember being impressed, except by the fact that the book was banned in so many places. One book I remember, and often think back on, is “1984” by George Orwell. When I read this book it was still in the future (not very far though!) and I remember when it turned to 1984 and I would frequently notice how many things were turning out similar to that nightmarish scenario. Today I think we’re a few steps closer to the nightmare than we were in 1984.
My favorite books that I read in school were probably The Great Gatsby and The Giver. I read The Giver in middle school and it was the first book that got me into reading- and I have loved to read ever since. I wish I would have read more Shakespeare in high school and Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.
My favorite book in school is The secret garden because after we finished reading the book we watched the movie, we read many other books and watched the movie after reading the book, but i did not like the endings, but i did like the ending for The secret Garden a book I would like to have read in school is La Fuerza De Sheccid from Carlos Cuahutemoc Sanchez because it is now one of my favorites.
Sophmore year in high school I read Black Boy, and it is still one of my favorite books. I also like the book This Boys Life that I read in college. A Child Called It is really good too. Now I'll have to check out the Tortilla Curtain.
One of the books that I really enjoyed reading was "A Child Called It". It is a depressing yet heart-warming story that is REAL. The entire collection is great. "The Lost Boy" is awesome, and "A Man Named Dave" proves that we can survive through anything as long as we keep thriving. All three books are great and I also think they are very important to incorporate into high school readings because it opens the eyes of students to issues that could be right in front of their faces.
I loved the tortilla curtain, i read it for one of my college classes! what a great story it definetly hits close to home. My favorite book that i read in highschool was To kill a mockingbird.
My favorite book in high school was "Night" by Elli Weiss ( I think that's how you spell his name). When I first started reading the book, I was horrified with the detailed explanations of the author's Holocaust experience. It was a great book! The book that I wish I would I read is "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte. I SHOULD have read it, but instead I grabbed the Cliffnotes.
I would have to suspend time to read, The World is Flat, Thomas Friedman, in high school. This is such a relevant book, bringing up several questions regarding the effects of globalization. Both positive and negative effects. The book that I liked the most in School was One flew over the Cuckoos Nest, By Ken Kesey.
