It's week two and I expect that you are finding your way around "The Six", the class blog, and the discussion board? I noticed that almost everyone left a comment on the blog, which is a great start. By now you should also have subscribed to ISTE and Taskstream, as well as bought a travel drive (portable storage device). . .Have u?

This week:
You will be introduced to blogging, bookmarking, and the EdTech profile. I expect to get you started on your blogs today (Mon) and introduce the Yahoo!Bookmarks assignment. . .the EdTechProfile is for you to do on your own, I hope ;-) Download all instructions from The Six when you arrive in class.

Journal #1: the link is under the "Cool Links" section of the class blog.

There will be no class on Wed as I have to be out of town for a meeting. So, I expect that you work on your EdTechProfile assignment on your own.

My favorite Teacher movie would have to be School of Rock. Jack Black is an awesome actor anyway, but the moral of the story is just so inspiring anyway. I love how all parties learn something. The kids learn how to have fun. The parents learn that outside activities are just as inportant as school, and the teacher/ lazy ass learns to be responsible and have something to live for.

I like school of Rock because Jack Black is so funny! And becauseI like the idea of a private preppy school having a rock band

I'll say that Dangerous Minds is my favorite teacher movie. You can't go wrong with Michelle Pfeiffer and Coolie... well he's just a genius. "Been spending most my life living in a Gangstas paradise..." So beautiful and poetic.

I heard someone say "summer school" in response to this question. So, while I'm not quite original in that response, I've got to go with that. F-U-N-N-Y movie, albeit in that old kinda cheesy 80-s style. I've got to mention the classic "dead poet's society", but, for my money, I'd rather laugh. So go check out "Summer School"!!!

I tried really hard to think of a teacher movie that was my favorite but I had a hard time deciding or thinking of one. I decided to go with a coaching movie because that is considered teaching. I really like the movie Glory Road. It was very insperational and had a great story line. The coach was a great teacher, and even though he was very strict, he really changed the way people responded to racial discrimination. It was a great movie.

I have to say that my favorite Teacher movie is the same as most of my peers, School of rock.

Stand and Deliver is definately my favorite. I mean, he gives them "the ganas" and makes them... Stand and Deliver! And CALCULUS! That's impressive. I hear Freedom Writers is also a good one.

My favorite teacher movie is Pay It Forward. Even though i cried at the end I loved the message it sent and the movie has inspired famous people like Oprah and her viewers to "Pay It Forward" and try to make a difference in peoples lives.

My favorite teacher movie is an older one called High School High. This movie is about a conservative and nieve white teacher who goes to a ghetto high school to accept a teaching position. He gets thrown into a classroom and has no idea how to approach these kids in their lives. It really shows how in any situation, you can reach children and students by adjusting your lesson plan an trying. Overall, it's a great laughing movie with tons of "oh my gosh, why am I a teacher" type of moments!!!

I was thinking on my favorite teacher movie and I came up with "Water Boy". This movie is fun and it is also very inspirational when you are determined to succeed.

School of Rock and Kindergarden Cop are my two favorite teacher movies. They're both great and School of Rock really shows how the children can fall in love with their teacher and learning. They're learning something they're interested in and that's why it's so awesome! K Cop is just great!

Rebecca and I went and saw Freedom Writers this weekend... and it was GREAT! I would definitely recomment this movie for anyone that has not seen it. FYI.... you might want to bring a Kleenex!

My favorite teacher movie is stand and deliver. It was shortly ofter La Bamba and i still thought Lou Diamond Philips was cool. It was a good movie too.

Since I just saw "Freedom Writers" and read the book, I'm going to go with that. There was a lot of negativity in the media saying it was "just another whitey saves the hood" movie. My opinion though is that it shouldn't matter what color a teacher is, if they're able to reach students the way Erin Gruwell did, who cares what color that person is? And don't we all need inspiration wherever we can get it?

I thought Freedom Writers was an amazing movie! I felt it to be very inspiring. I went ahead and found out more about the teacher in the movie, since it was based on a true story, and found out she is still teaching and helping other teachers learn her method.

my favorite teacher movie is Coach Carter. He was tough and that is how I want to be, but easy at times. He taught values and that school is more important than sports.

One of my all-time favorite movies is Almost Famous by Cameron Crowe. There are two teachers in this movie. One is Frances McDormand's character (a college professor) who coaches her son William and Russell the Stillwater guitarist through many life lessons. She ends a conversation on the phone with Russell this phrase: "Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid, Goethe said that." It comes off unbelievably natural. Also, Phillip Seymour Hoffman's character when he says: "the only true currency on this bankrupt world is what two people share when they're uncool." Great lines of solid wisdom.

I have to agree with Megan when she says that Mr. Holland's Opus is a great movie! My passion is music and he was an excellent example of a passionate and dedicated teacher. Mr. Holland was dedicated to helping students who were having trouble learning the material and wanted to help them excel learn as much as they can. I loved the music (Gershwin is awesome), acting, and the story line.

I think my favorite serious teacher movie would have to be, " Mr. Holland's Opus" It shows not only how Mr. Holland begins the teaching "gig" as a fall back profession, but it also shows how he learns to love his students and his work.

With that being said, my favorite funny teacher movie would have to be a 1986 movie called "Back to School" It Starred Rodney Dangerfield. I think it is really funny how a man who had no SAT scores, but a lot of money can find himself taking classes with his son. Loved The Sam Kineson History Prof. "Say it! Say it!"

My favorite Teacher movie is Freedom Writers. I first read the book and then took my 12 year old daughter to go see it. An inspiring story of how a 23 year old high school teacher used writing to change her student lives and the world around them. Great movie!!!

School of Rock is my favorite teacher movie. Jack Black can always make me laugh, but even through the comedy I thought this movie had a cool message. And I also heard that all the kids in the movie are really talented musicians in real life, which is awesome.

My favorite teacher movie (could be because I just saw it in the theaters) is Freedom Writers. Being able to teach students to trust through writing brings respect and cohesiveness to the classroom. Awesome tear jerking flick!

I also decided to go with a coaching movie. I chose the movie called Coach Carter. It was based on true story about a basketball coach who benches his whole team from playing any basketball games until their grades improved. He taught his basketball team that doing well in school will benefit their future more than just being really good at a sport.

My favorite movie revolving around the education system is Lean On Me with Morgan Freeman. I freaking love that movie, cry every time, and get so inspired to just be a better person when I watch it.

There are a lot of good ones since it's an inspiring subject! I liked "Good Will Hunting". Matt Damon was a math genius working as a janitor at MIT and Robin Williams was a teacher that changed his life. Williams character helps Matt break out of a cycle of violence and self loathing.

Take the Lead is my favorite teacher movie. It just rented it last week. I loved how ballroom dancing was integrated into schools. I also had a great message of hope for students thought of as "underachievers" or even failures. It was very inspiring.

My favorite teacher movie is American History X. It was so powerful and meaningful I just couldnt stop watching it after I bought it. I feel that it brought out the importance of never giving up on a child no matter how out of control they become. It is by far my favorite movie.

Am I allowed to say Sister Act 2? I love that movie so much. Cant really forget Laurynn Hill's performance before she made it big in that movie. If I'm not allowed to claim Sister Act 2 as my favorite teaching movie (and I don't know why I wouldn't be able to) I would say Dead Poets Society. That is a fantastic movie about really instilling the desire and passion to learn. Is that not the goal of all of us future teachers? Both great movies.

"Back to School" with Rodney Dangerfield. Hey, Dangerfield is the man. Give him some respect!

My favorite teacher movie is Remember the Titans, although it is about the high school football coaches it shows how they can serve as mentors and help bring together divided students.

i'd have to say that my favorite teacher movie is also School of Rock. Its a great inspirational flick while also bending the rules a little bit. ALso only the strong is a gerat film, simply ebcause the teacher reaches the inner city youth by means of capoeira (a brazilian martial art that really has only been showcased in that film, until just recently)

My favorite teacher movie is Mr. Carter because I liked the way he motivate their students to think big and believe that they can have a better life no matter from what class status they come from.

My favorite teacher movie is Lean on Me. I appreciate that the principal (Morgan Freeman, I think)always has the students' best interest at heart. First he seems like a jerk, but he ends up breaking the law and getting locked-up in order to make a difference in his school. I think its early ninties, but its still my favorite.

My favorite teacher movie is Lean on Me, the story of Joe Clark. I could relate to many of the issues presented in the movie. It is also one of very few movies that depict the positive impact of Black educators and administrators in the classroom.

My favorite teacher movie would have to be "Mr. Holland's Opus." Mr. Holland took a teaching job so he would have extra time. Then he learns how demanding teaching really is.

OOPS!! My favorite Teacher movie would have to be "Higher learning." This movie gives hope and a different look for all school areas not so concerned for education.

My favorite Teacher movie is "Take The Lead", 2006, with Antonio Banderas. Here, he teaches a group of high school trouble makers that they can get along and succeed by dancing to the beauty of ballroom music. I liked how he was a very perseverant teacher who went through many obstacles to reach his objectives and he finally made his students like school.

My favorite teacher movie would probably be the movie summer school, 80's. Yeah I dont remember the actor's name but he was a laid back guy who got stuck teaching summer school and took them on filed trips and let them do whatever they wanted. But he did earn their respect and they learned alot of valuable lessons in life.

Favorite movie fapens to be STrictly Ballroom. yes it is a girl chick flic , but really it is a good movie. Dance teaches us how to experiment with the confinement of rules. IF you believe you can learn and are open to ideas then you can do anything. ps. this is pased in Australia so it has a lot of british hummor in it. If you don't like dance movies, or don't have a girl frind don't watch it unless its really late at night and your a little on the bazarro side. I know no one is going to read this because I wrote it so late. So have fun and enjoy this movie with a group of people.
